How to fix Android 15 battery drain

We are providing you with various methods for resolving the Battery Drain issue on Android 15 devices. The fifteenth edition of the operating system has just been released by the Silicon Valley giant, so prepare to enjoy the Vanilla Ice Cream flavor. As far as its ingredients [aka features] are concerned, we can expect quite a few noteworthy ones, such as Private Space, Lock Screen widgets, Battery Health Percentage, and App Archive, to name a few.

Although it does have a lot of great features, it’s not free of its fair share of problems as well. For example, many users complain that their device drains a lot of battery right after installing Android 15. Since it’s not related to a particular app or device, it’s probably the underlying OS. But there are a bunch of workarounds that should fix it, so let’s check them out.

This is important because different workarounds may suit different users better, depending on their level of skill and comfort with technology. By trying out all of the options, users can find the best one for them.

FIX 1: Restrict App’s Battery Usage

As a first step, let’s identify the app that caused the issue and then restrict its uncontrolled battery usage in the background.

Restrict App’s Battery Usage

  1. The first thing you should do is navigate to your device’s Settings menu.
  2. Go to the Battery section and select Battery Usage.
  3. The apps can now be viewed under the ‘App usage for the past 24 hours’ section.
  4. Select Restricted from the menu of the first app in that list.
  5. Similarly, perform the same procedure for every app that occupies a higher position on that list.
  6. Verify that it fixes the battery charging issue on Android 15 after it has been applied.

FIX 2: Disable Always On Display

It has always been a notorious fact that Always on Display drains an astronomical amount of battery power. As a result, it is recommended that it is left disabled.

  1. The first step is to navigate to Settings > Display > Lock Screen.
  2. After that, disable the toggle next to Always Show Time and Info.
  3. Test it to see if it resolves the battery issue on Android 15.

Disable Always On Display

FIX 3: Disable Mobile Data Always Active

As long as you are using WiFi, your device will still have the Mobile Data option activated. This occurs because if your device cannot receive WiFi signals, it will automatically switch over to the carrier’s data service.

Disable Mobile Data Always Active

As an advantage, there will be no significant productivity loss as well as your ability to continue to be online. However, on the downside, this will lead to a reduction in battery life. Therefore, you should consider disabling this feature.

  1. First off, you will have to enable Developer Options. So go to Settings > About Phone > Tap on Build Number 7 times.
  2. You will now get a prompt that you are now a developer. Now go to Settings > System > Developer Options.
  3. Within that, scroll to the Mobile Data Always Active option and turn it off.
  4. Check if it fixes the battery charging issue on Android 15.

FIX 4: Lower the Screen Timeout

A screen timeout determines the duration of time in which your display will be turned off. The ‘pixel’ display consumes a small amount of battery every second it is turned on. However, if these factors are combined over a long period, they will lead to uncontrolled battery consumption. Therefore, it is best to limit its usage using the instructions provided below.

Lower the Screen Timeout

  1. So head over to Settings > Display on your device.
  2. Then go to the Screen Timeout option.
  3. Now select either 15 seconds or 30 seconds at the very max.
  4. Check if it fixes the battery charging issue on Android 15.

FIX 5: Disable Tap to Wake

It is a feature (sort of) that allows users to wake up their device, check for pending notifications, and perform other related tasks without unlocking their phone, which is a kind of accessible feature (kind of). This feature is quite useful, but it comes at the cost of high battery consumption. Therefore, I believe that the best option is to disable both of its associated features, as described below:

Disable Tap to Wake

  1. Start by going to Settings > Display.
  2. Then go to the Lock Screen section.
  3. Now disable the Tap to Check Phone and Lift to Check Phone features.
  4. Check if it fixes the battery draining issue on Android 15.

FIX 6: Use Battery Saver Mode

I’m sure that you all expected this, didn’t you? On a serious note though, this method proved to give the best result when it came to resolving the battery issue. But why did we mention it at the end? It’s because it results in sacrificing some other features.

You will thus have to say goodbye to a high refresh rate, auto-sync, and so forth. So if you are willing to accept a less-than-optimal user experience in exchange for some additional battery life, then follow these steps.

  1. Head over to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver.
  2. Now enable the toggle next to Use Battery Saver.
  3. Check if it fixes the battery charging issue on Android 15.

Use Battery Saver Mode

FIX 7: Enable Extreme Battery Saver

Consider enabling the Extreme Battery Saver Mode as well if you wish to take an even more aggressive approach. During this mode, most apps and services will be temporarily paused. Also, you will be able to add the desired applications to the whitelist, so that they will not be affected by this mode.

It would be wise to enable this feature before going to bed and reactivate it the next morning. On the other hand, you should ensure that all your essential apps are added to the whitelist to avoid being affected by this feature. On that note, here is the process of enabling this feature on your Android 12 device:

Enable Extreme Battery Saver

  1. Head over to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver option.
  2. Then go to Extreme Battery Saver > When to use and select Always Use.
  3. Now go back and go to the Essential Apps section and add your desired apps there.
  4. Check if it fixes the battery charging issue on Android 15.

FIX 8: Turn off Adaptive Connectivity

The Adaptive Connectivity feature appears to be one of the most underrated causes of this issue. For those not familiar with this feature, it allows your device to switch between 5G and 4G as it deems fit. To preserve battery life, the Adaptive Connectivity feature will switch from 5G to 4G when you are using an instant messaging app or scrolling through feeds.

Turn off Adaptive Connectivity

As for streaming a movie, however, it will switch back to 5G when you do so. As of the time of writing, several users have expressed concern about Mobile Network Standby draining their devices of excessive amounts of battery. The Mobile Network Standby is a component of Adaptive Connectivity, so turning it off has proven to be highly effective in preserving battery life. Here is how to do it:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Network and Internet.
  2. After that, scroll down to Adaptive Connectivity and disable the toggle next to it.
  3. Test to see if it fixes the battery drain issue on Android 15.

FIX 9: Disable Physical Activity Permission

Currently, one of the components of the Samsung Health app is proving to be a major culprit when it comes to battery drain and device overheating. If you own a Samsung Galaxy smartwatch, you must install the Samsung Health app on your device. The Physical Activity permission is consuming excessive resources.

Those unfamiliar with this permission may be unaware that it allows your device to count the steps without using a smartwatch. Since the app is currently not optimized for Android 13, it is best to limit its aforementioned permission, as follows [Some users are speculating that Google has done this specifically to promote its upcoming smartwatch! Well, you should decide for yourself!]

Disable Physical Activity Permission

  1. The first step is to navigate to Settings > Apps > See All Apps.
  2. Go to the Permissions section of the Samsung Health App after selecting it.
  3. Under Allowed, select the permission for Physical Activity.
  4. Try changing its permission to Don’t Allow and see what happens.

FIX 10: Downgrade to Android 14

It is your last resort if none of the above approaches have been successful, to downgrade to Android 14. Taking a complete backup of your device beforehand will help you avoid wiping out all of your data. Once you have taken your device backup.

These are the methods for solving the battery drain issue on Android 15. If you have any questions regarding the aforementioned steps, please let us know in the comments. We will respond as soon as possible.
