Activate the Speedometer on Goog

Google Maps has now reached the status of one of the best navigation apps for Android, thanks to the various features offered and introduced during development. One of the most interesting and useful ones is the possibility of using an on-screen speedometer. In this guide, we will tell you how to activate and use it.

By activating the speedometer on Google Maps, you will be able to view the speed of your vehicle during the journey, helping you to keep speed limits under control. In fact, the indicator will change color every time you have exceeded the limit relating to the road traveled, making it much easier to control while driving.

Google Maps: how to enable the screen speedometer

To activate the speedometer on Google Maps, all you have to do is:

  • Open the app on your Android smartphone, make sure you have the latest version, update the app from the PlayStore if you haven’t done it yet;
  • Touch the icon with three lines in the upper left corner and select the Settings item  ;
  • Scroll down and find the Navigator Settings option  ;
  • After entering the screen, always scroll down until you find the speedometer toggle, then touch it to enable the function.

Then go back to the main Google Maps screen and start browsing by entering the desired starting point and destination. As soon as the navigation has started, you will be able to see a small window in the lower left of the app screen, which will indicate the speed of your vehicle.

Keep in mind that the update speed with which travel speed is measured is not high. So don’t expect much reactivity during accelerations. The performance of the indicator, in this case, is slightly lower than the electronic ones of modern vehicles, but still good for providing warnings regarding the overtaking of the limit.

Google Maps also offers speed limit indicators and speed camera warnings based on where you are.
