Use Samsung Health with Xiaomi Mi Band – Guide

If you are passionate about fitness, you will know that the Samsung Health app keeps track of every training activity, and moreover presents various articles on the subject of health. His work would therefore be perfectly integrated with that of a device like the Xiaomi Mi band, a fitness tracker par excellence. As a rule, however, this would be prevented, but with a certain procedure, we can solve it.

Samsung Health with Xiaomi Mi Band

It is not possible to carry out the synchronization operation by direct passage, but giving it up, for this reason, would be a real shame, don’t you think? The functional integration between the fitness tracker in question and a complete app like Samsung Health would give results that are not very satisfactory for the user (image source: samsung.com).

There are indeed certain steps to be performed in sequence, but the result leaves no doubts about its success. The rest of the app is used by Samsung users and direct synchronization with a Xiaomi device or other brand is not allowed. With the synchronization implemented, however, it will no longer be necessary to carry the smartphone or other Samsung device with you, since the fitness tracker will also be synchronized.

The steps to take for synchronization: the use of Google Fit

Since there is no direct possibility, we will have to take advantage of some intermediaries. In particular, there will be two apps that will mediate the proceeding, but first, consider that the Xiaomi fitness tracker also has its own app. It’s about Mi Fit

To sync, Mi Fit needs to sync its data with Google Fit (the first intermediary app). Then Health Sync (the other intermediary app) will have to take over, which will transmit the data from Google Fit to Samsung Health. So let’s start by downloading both Google Fit and Health Sync (image source: play.google.com).

We open the Mi Fit app on the Xiaomi Mi Band and go to the Profiles section. Click on “Add account” and from the screen that opens we will select Google Fit. However, this step can be avoided if access to Mi Fit has already taken place with a Google account. Otherwise, in this step, you will have to opt for a Google account. Where it is not already present, it will therefore be necessary to provide for it before the passage itself.

We then open the Google Fit app and log in. It must take place with the same login account used for Mi Fit (still a Google account, therefore). The system will ask for additional data for setting up your account, so let’s enter it.

The steps to take for synchronization: the use of Health Sync

Now let’s move on to the Health Sync brokerage. The synchronization in this regard offered by the app takes place in two alternative directions. On the one hand, in fact, Google Fit can be integrated into Samsung Health via Health Sync, while on the other, the opposite can be done, with the integration of Samsung Health into Google Fit.

We are interested in the first integration, that of Google Fit with Samsung Health. We then configure Health Sync, with the requested Google details, and provide the permissions that will be requested on the screen. Specifically, different permissions will be required for reading and writing. Given the role of intermediation with which we want to use the app, the aforementioned authorizations will all be needed (image source: play.google.com).

At this point, we open Samsung Health. Click on ” Steps ” to open the card in a new window. Now let’s go to “All steps” and from the list that will open, select Health Sync. Samsung Health will thus start counting our steps. It should be noted that in the early stages, the app will take a few hours before the updated data is displayed, so it is important not to lose patience.

In subsequent applications, as you progress, the synchronized application will appear tested and with immediate tangible reliability.

Some problems encountered

It is advisable to inform the user of how there are still some problems encountered. The integration will be successful, and regardless of the device, among those used, which we will carry with us in our daily running activity, the steps will be counted only, since the other apps will each transmit their data to Samsung Health.

The critical point lies in the fact that, although the operation is successful, sometimes it happens that there is a defect in the data transmission, which will not be accurate (we are talking about those specific cases). In other words, there will be marginal differences between the steps to be counted and those actually counted.

In addition to the marginal difference in the count, just mentioned, and which in any case occurs only on certain occasions, however, there is something else. The integration works for the steps, but the same cannot be said for other functions. There is for example the monitoring of heart activity, and then that of other activities

These are data that actually escape the synchronization discussed here. Only the data relating to the passages, to certain states of suspension will be transmitted. This is what is transmitted from Mi Fit to Google Fit. And ultimately, taking up the situation that may be lacking for step counting, the following can specifically happen.

In practice, you will have the pedometer widget on the Home screen of the fit tracker device, but at that given moment the synchronization between the apps is not active, as it is intermittent at times. It follows that the step count numbers will not be illuminated on the screen, precisely because synchronization will not be active. Better to know that those steps will not add up in the final count, even if the user can somehow fix it.

In other words, it will have to verify the status of the synchronization, and although the latter is set for a connection every certain time, it can still be performed manually. This way we will know that at that moment the steps will be counted. To confirm this, we display the numbers on the Xiaomi Home, which should appear as illuminated, and not off as in the previous picture.
