Pterodon Recovery

Pterodon Recovery

The Android recovery environment, popularly known as  Recovery, is the gateway to all the significant modifications you want to make to your smartphone. With it, you can install the best custom ROMs for your mobile, a better Kernel, perform system maintenance, and hundreds of other things.

However, the standard Recovery that almost all manufacturers include is not especially complete. Because of this, the Android community for years has been working on designing more complete recovery environments, such as TWRP.

There are several options to choose from depending on your device, but from today a new rival joins the competition. This is Pterodon Recovery, the project that wants to dethrone TWRP.

Pterodon Recovery points to a much smoother user interface and a relatively extensive list of features.

Pterodon Recovery points

Custom recovery exists almost from the birth of Android. The first excellent custom recovery was ClockworkMod (CWM) since it was the first to allow the installation of ROMs, Kernels, make backups, restore the system and run ADBD in insecure mode.

Then came TWRP with its touch support, to which CWM also joined, but it was late, and thereafter its decline began. Since then, there has been multiple additional Recovery based on this, like OrangeFoxRedWolf, or Sky Hawk, but TWRP continues to reign indisputably.

However, a new contender to this battle is now introduced, Pterodon Recovery. This is a recovery environment created by ATG Droid, the same developer behind RedWolf, but totally written from scratch.

THIS RECOVERY COMES FROM THE DEVELOPERS OF REDWOLF

This new Recovery focuses on giving an improved graphical interface (GUI) designed thanks to the libaroma engine, the same one that powers the AROMA Installer. If you do not know what the latter is, it is a ROMs installer that allows you to select as you please all the features you want, or not, to install on your mobile when flashing.

But in addition to the classic functions that any recovery environment should have, Pterodon Recovery offers much more. The most remarkable thing is that Pterodon has a whole series of diagnostic tools that TWRP does not, and that will help you know what problem your mobile may have.

Is that not enough for you? Well, Pterodon also has some rather curious additional features. For example, the status bar adapts if you have a mobile with a notch or not, supports DT2S (double tap to sleep), and you can even adapt the screen brightness in the Recovery.

Pterodon Recovery is still under development, but could soon displace TWRP if batteries are not put in.

At the time of writing, Pterodon Recovery is still a new project, not intended for everyday use. ATG Droid, its developer, has not yet implemented specific vital modules for its operation, as well as a partition manager. Consequently, the project is still quite unstable.

However, the Pterodon Recovery source code is available to users, so users can correct errors and develop new features. Likewise, the first preliminary versions are already ready, and they work for Xiaomi’s popular Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 6 Pro.

We will keep the magnifying glass on this project, as it promises to be very good. Besides, if at some point, Pterodon moves forward to obtain sufficient stability and achieve mass adoption, perhaps we are about to witness a similar story like the one that happened between CWM and TWRP.

What do you think will happen? Will Pterodon Recovery get the crown TWRP is wearing right now?
