Hide your location in WhatsApp calls to make them more secure

In the past year, Meta released several new features for its instant messaging app, WhatsApp. One of them is the ability to hide your IP and location during calls. Read on to find out how you can turn on the new security feature for WhatsApp voice calls and video calls if you often use the app.

A new privacy feature in WhatsApp’s talk introduces a way to hide your IP address in calls, giving you an additional layer of security. “Protect IP address in calls” is the name of the new feature in the talk.

The IP address you share with the other person on a WhatsApp call is shared before the release of a new feature, so it is possible that the other person can discover your geographic location and Internet Service Provider (ISP).

According to Meta, WhatsApp servers relay calls through your IP address, thereby obscuring your IP address. The Protect IP address feature will route your call through Meta’s servers first before connecting it to the recipient, so the quality may be lower than normal calls, but it is still a great feature.
