The twelfth generation of the OnePlus phone comes with an impressive set of specs and a bunch of interesting features. It was first released in China and then made available to the rest of the world a month later. Unfortunately, there are still a few regions where the phone isn’t officially available. In those cases, users had to export it through third-party services such as Giztop, but now it looks like they’ve hit a snag.
The OnePlus 12 Region Lock Issue
Many of these users have found out that their OnePlus 12 has a region-locked SIM card, which means that they cannot use their region’s SIM card. They can only make calls and receive messages if they are using a Chinese SIM card, which is not an option for them. If they try to use their country’s SIM card, then their OnePlus 12 will immediately block their country’s MMC and give them the following error:
You are using a region-customized phone. Its calling function will be restricted in your region. Please contact a retail store for support.
How to Check if OnePlus 12 is Region Locked?
This is one of the most important questions that many buyers have to ask themselves. If you’re one of them, there are a couple of ways that you can answer this question:
- Just insert your region’s SIM card and if you get the above error message then your OnePlus 12 is region locked.
Dial *#899# and select Manual Test > Communication Debugging. If the region test box is grayed out, it means the region is unlocked. - Dial *#899# and select Manual Test > Communication Debugging. If the area check field is gray, the area is unlocked.

How to Fix OnePlus 12 Region Lock?
