Kodi is a popular media centre app that lets you keep all of your media files in one place and find them easily. Kodi has a remote control, but many people find it hard to use and prefer to use their phones instead. Fortunately, using your phone as a Kodi remote control is easy and straightforward. In this article, we’ll show you how to do it so that you can get the most out of your device.
Benefits of Using Your Phone as a Kodi Remote Control:
Convenience: You always have your phone with you, so you don’t have to look for the physical remote every time you want to control your Kodi device.
Interface That’s Easy to Use: The Kodi remote app has an easy-to-use interface that makes it simple to find and control your media files.
Customization: The Kodi remote app can be changed to suit your tastes and needs. For example, you can make quick links to your favorite media files.
How to use your phone as a Kodi remote control
This guide, complete with screenshots, will show you how to set up and configure Kodi so that you can control it from your phone. Following that, you’ll learn how to use the Kodi remote control app on your smartphone to control the media center.
Basic configuration
- This section will let us figure out what the bare minimum options are for letting external apps work.
- First, open Kodi and click on the icon that looks like a gear (gear icon)
- On the Settings page, choose Services.
- Choose Control from the menu on the left. Here, you must turn on Allow remote control through HTTP.
- We can also set a port, a username, and a password if we want to.
- Scroll down a bit on the same page until you see the option Allow remote control from applications on other systems. Turn it on.
Advanced configuration
The steps we’ll look at now aren’t required, but they make it easier to set up and use remote control apps like Yatse:
- Zeroconf: This will make it possible for Yatse and other add-ons to automatically find your Kodi device.
- UPnP: Here we can fix some streaming problems. It is suggested that you set these options.
Follow the next steps:
Keep going the same way as in the last step: Settings –> Services –> and the zerocon option shows up under the General tab. Here, you need to turn on the option Tell other systems about services.
Then, on the left menu, we go to UPnP/DLNA > Enable UPnP support > and turn on the following:
- Share my libraries
- Allow control of Kodi via UPnP
And we’ve already set up Kodi so that we can use our phone’s remote control apps to control it.
