In addition to many seasons, movies, and documentaries, Netflix is a hub for entertainment. It has been reported that many users have experienced screen flickering and blinking while using the platform. Neither the Netflix application nor the browser on Windows or MacOS are affected by this issue. The purpose of this guide is to provide practical solutions for resolving this problem in both cases.

Following are a few general steps you should take before classifying our solutions for browsers and applications.

  • Check for errors after restarting the computer or laptop you are experiencing this issue on.
  • If the error persists, restart your internet device to resolve the connection issue.
  • Netflix’s server status should be checked to ensure there is no issue on their end.

Windows Browser Issues and Solutions

Clear your browser’s cache

Remove all cookies and cache from your browser. It is possible for accumulated cache or corrupted cookies to cause display-related issues in some cases.

Using your browser’s settings, select the ‘Clear browsing data’ or ‘Clear cache’ option, and then select the appropriate option. Restart your browser to see if the issue of screen flickering has been resolved.

Turn off your browser’s extensions

There are several reasons why Netflix screen flickers, but the most common one is that you have added extensions to your browsers. These extensions interfere with Netflix’s smooth operation and interfere with its functioning.

Following these steps will assist you in eliminating this problem. Microsoft Edge and Chrome have similar steps, but other browsers have similar ones as well.

Microsoft Edge

  • You can get there by clicking the three-dot icon at the top right of the edge homepage.

  • To access the Extensions menu, click on the menu item.

Microsoft Edge

  • Once you have selected Manage Extensions, toggle off all the extensions you want to disable.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

  1. To access Google’s homepage, click on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.

  2. You will then be prompted to choose More Tools followed by Extensions.

  3. All extensions should be selected and toggled off.

You can test whether the flickering has stopped after performing these steps by playing any Netflix movie. This issue was caused by one or more extensions that were added. You should enable each disabled extension one at a time and keep rechecking for the issue. Once you identify the problematic extension, you should be able to find an alternative.

Driver Updates

Graphics card drivers that are out of date or incompatible can sometimes cause display problems. The number of problems associated with this cause and how finicky it can get at its worst may surprise you.

Turn off hardware acceleration

Turn off hardware acceleration

Enabling hardware acceleration can also cause this issue. By using hardware acceleration, the CPU workload is transferred to components such as GPUs. Netflix will not function properly due to this, since GPUs are required to process media. In order to disable hardware acceleration, you will need to follow these steps:

  • Your browser’s Settings are located under System and Performance.

  • Click Restart, toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available, and then click Use hardware acceleration when available.

  • Check if the issue has been resolved once the browser has been restarted.

Turn off excess screens by logging out

This issue can also be caused by multiple devices logged into your account. As Netflix has a set limit for screens, such issues can arise once that number is exceeded.

Check out our TV guide for logging out of Netflix on a smart TV; otherwise, follow Netflix’s official documentation for steps for every device. In the event that this isn’t possible, you might want to consider creating a new Netflix account, particularly in light of Netflix’s recent crackdown on password sharing.

Enhancing power output

Low power output to computer components can also contribute to this issue by reducing the processor’s processing power. Changing this setting is as simple as clicking on the battery icon on your laptop and selecting “Best performance.”.

Enhancing power output

To increase your system’s power output, follow these steps:

  1. Select Hardware and Sound in the Control Panel of your computer.

  2. After that, click on Power Options before selecting Create a Power Plan

  3. Select the High-Performance option on the new page.

Get the latest browser update

When your browser is not up to date, such incompatibility issues can arise and cause Netflix’s screen to flicker. Check that by opening your browser’s homepage and clicking the three-dot or three-bar symbol in the upper right corner. Check your browser for updates if there are any available.

It is hoped that the issue will be resolved once the update is complete and the browser has been restarted.

Change your browser

You may want to consider shifting to a new browser if none of the above solutions work. There are sometimes issues with some browsers for specific websites which are later resolved. The Microsoft Edge browser is known to have flickering issues, and we have a guide that explains how to fix it.

A few great underrated alternatives to Firefox are Brave Browser and Mozilla Firefox. Having used Google Chrome, I was able to eliminate the issue, but you can also try other browsers. Our list of the best web browsers for every kind of user, even those with low-end devices, is also worth checking out.

MacOS solution

This issue is unlikely to occur on macOS since it is more accessible and less prone to bugs than Windows. If you’re having trouble with Netflix screen flickering on a Mac, here’s what you can do.

In addition to updating graphics drivers and changing power settings, all the methods mentioned above apply here as well.

Setting the pointer

Change Pointer Settings

When they applied this method, many users reported their Netflix screen stopped flickering. This method works for unknown reasons but here is how it works:

Accessibility is located in the Settings section.

You can find Pointer under Display, just scroll down.

Settings for the display

Display Settings

  1. Make sure the “Shake mouse pointer to locate” is turned off.

  2. You would probably be able to resolve your problem now.

  3. Now you can turn off the “Shake mouse pointer to locate” feature. Now your issue would probably be resolved.
