Samsung showed the world the advantages of OLED screen technology, making known the best that Samsung Display has done in recent months. Thus, we have a new official video in which the brand shows us the future of its foldable smartphones.

The video was made available on YouTube and, in addition to new product concepts, we see the real applications of folding screen technology. More specifically, we can see an OLED screen folding in two zones and sliding when it is closed/folded.

This is the future of Samsung folding screens

Extendable, foldable, and malleable screens are one of the current trends among the main screen manufacturers, especially within the South Korean Samsung. Indeed, what we see above is proof of what the manufacturer has prepared for the near future.

These are new prototypes presented during Display Week, a virtual initiative by Samsung, as pointed out by the publication Sammobile, always attentive to the designs of this manufacturer. The video is highly promising and presents 3 concepts.

The most surprising thing is the “multi-folding” device with a 17-inch screen that can be folded in several places, appearing to be more than a tablet, more comparable to a laptop with the front camera hidden under its display.

The S-Foldable is one of the foldable smartphone concepts

It is nicknamed the Samsung S-foldable, a concept with a 7.2-inch screen when opened and very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, already on the market. The differences lie here in the folding mechanism, or rather, in the inclusion of a third folding point.

Indeed, while the Z Fold essentially folds in half (two zones), the S-foldable appears to fold in three points, creating three sections. This allows to further reduce the size of the terminal when closed and to increase its applications.

We also see an extensible screen, not unlike the LG rollable, the smartphone that would never be released. The main highlight, however, is for models with larger screens such as this 17-inch OLED folding panel.

According to the manufacturer, this type of screen can be used as a tablet, or as a portable computer and versatile workstation. It is part of a myriad of concepts and implementations that the Samsung Display division is currently experiencing.

The front camera will migrate below the OLED screen

Finally, we also have a concept of a more traditional notebook, as we have a keyboard and fixed body. The difference here lies in the implementation of the front camera under the OLED screen, thus being completely hidden and releasing the bezel.

Samsung Display is the division of Samsung Electronics that produces the OLED screens and panels used by Samsung in its smartphones and various mobile devices and is also sought after by other manufacturers such as Apple.

In this way, we can see Samsung itself presenting products with these new implementations in the near future, as can other brands. In any case, this shows us the clear commitment of the South Korean company in the foldable format.

As our appetite for larger screens increases, the company seeks to deliver that to us, without increasing the product’s dimensions too much.

This will be the main advantage of “folding” as a whole, the versatility of a larger screen, with the convenience of a “traditional” and compact screen, which we can carry comfortably.
