use Alexa as a custom alarm clock

Surely in the morning, it is difficult for you to get out of the sheets, but you have to get up to start a new day. One of the best-selling products in recent years is the Amazon Echo devices, which have the assistant of the American company inside them. And you sure don’t get the most out of it. Do you use Alexa as an alarm clock?

In this article, we will try to ensure that you never fall asleep again to go to work, so you do not miss that important appointment, or simply be more productive when you wake up. We will create a routine so that, at the time you want, the assistant Alexa does everything you have programmed.

Customize your alarm clock with Alexa

Prepare the coffee … perhaps for now the Amazon assistant is not so smart, but it can help us wake up. Alexa has an integrated alarm clock function, but we can only select a couple of predetermined sounds, select the days to be repeated, and the date of the same. That is why we are going to create a personalized alarm clock with Alexa so that it does exactly what we want.

First of all, you must have an Amazon device that is compatible with the Alexa assistant. In our case, we think the fourth-generation Amazon Echo with the clock is convenient to be on the bedside table. But you can choose the one you already have at home, or buy one for your bedroom. Now, we can start creating the routine that will take place as soon as we wake up.

Go to the official Amazon Alexa application, available in the Android application store, Google Play, or in the iOS application store, App Store. Once downloaded and installed, log into your account. This process must have already been done before configuring your Amazon Echo for the first time.

Create the Alexa routine to never fall asleep

To create the wake-up routine in Alexa, access the More section in the lower menu, and then in Routines. Now, tap on the “+” icon. Touch fill in the data we need, such as the name to identify the routine. You can put, for example, “my personalized alarm clock with Alexa”.

In the “When” section, we must select the Time option, and then tap on  TimeSet when the alarm will sound, on what days, and at what time. That’s it when those days arrive and it is exactly the selected time, the routine will be activated. But for now, it does nothing since we will have to tell the assistant what to do.

Touch the Add action section, and first, we will increase the volume of our Amazon Echo just in case. To do this, select the Device configuration option, and then VolumeSet the volume you want, being aware that it will sound when you have to wake up.

Now, select the option Music and podcasts. From here you can select any song, artist, podcast, or station that you have in your library or select any provider such as Amazon Music, TuneIn, or Spotify. You can then set a timer to go off, for example, for 5 minutes.

From here, you are free to choose the actions you want to perform. For example, you can turn on the light on your bedside table, have Alexa tell you the traffic status, mention if it is going to be sunny or instead you should take an umbrella, etc. The limit is in your imagination, needs, and smart devices that you have at home.

Of course, once we finish configuring all the actions that the Alexa custom alarm clock will perform, you must select the device from which the action will be issued, and therefore from where it will sound. We are interested in the device that is in your room, because if it is in the kitchen … you may not wake up. Finally, save the routine from the upper right corner. You can edit this routine as many times as you need.
