Micro SD As Internal Storage On Xiaomi

MIUI is a layer that has many additions and lets us tinker with many of its options.

One of them is the Micro SD, it is true that as a general rule they do not fall short configuring their mobiles (almost all come with a 64 GB minimum) but … What if you run out of internal space and need more yes or yes?

The final solution is not only to put it in and now, but we are also going to teach you how to configure it to serve as internal storage as if it came from the factory. It is a process for somewhat more advanced users and, in turn, tremendously useful.

Micro SD as internal storage? So you can do it on your Xiaomi with MIUI

Surely you have noticed that, when you put an SD, it only serves to save certain files and, at most, pass some applications to the card.

This makes a lot of sense and the reason is very simple: using slow SD cards and making them count as internal storage would be crazy.

Not all have the same speed and, if you need this, surely you will not be worth with one that you have thrown around the house.

It must be, at least, a class A1 or A2 capable of executing applications by itself and if it is of a higher class, it is better. Here it is worth not skimping or your mobile will become very slow and even compromise your operating system.

We recommend the following, it is one of the best and it is worth it. Having a good and reliable SD that goes fast will always come in handy, think that you are paying 20-30 euros to have 128 GB more of internal storage, not bad at alldon’t you think?

Steps to configure SD as internal storage in MIUI

This process is dedicated to somewhat more advanced users and remembers that using an SD card has some disadvantages.

It is a function that as such is not “completely” supported by MIUI, that is, a bug may appear. On the other hand, your launcher will get messy and to see the real storage you will need an app like “Free Space”.

FreeSpace

Even so, if you have no other choice, we believe that you will not have problems and yes, much more space. Before starting, check that you have all this:

  • A Xiaomi mobile with Android 6.0 onwards with SD slot
  • An empty A1 or A2 card.
  • A PC with ADB drivers installed from here.
  • QuickShortcutMaker installed (we leave the link below)

QuickShortcutMaker (Shortcut)

Make sure you read everything well and install the necessary applications on your mobile and ADB on your PC. Now, let’s go to the configuration:

  • Activate the developer settings, this application will help you if you don’t know-how.
  • Once inside the advanced options, activate “Activate Screen or Keep on”, “USB Debugging” and deactivate “MIUI Optimization” (the last option in the list).
  • Connect your Xiaomi to the PC with the SD inside and make sure that the cable is of the best possible quality, the original will be perfect for you.
  • Open the CMD on your Windows computer (Search bar – Write CMD – Right click – Run as administrator).
  • A window will open and type ” adb devices ” without the quotes. Numbers corresponding to your Xiaomi will appear and it will ask you for permission, on the mobile, to execute commands from the PC and the ID of your mobile will appear in the command window.

Run the following commands one by one. You will get something like ” disk: 179,64 “. Remember that number.

  • ADB Shell
  • sm set-force-adoptable true
  • sm list-disks

Change the number (179.64) for the one you got in the command above. Put “sm partition disk: 179.64 private” if you want your SD to be dedicated entirely to internal storage.

You can put ” sm partition disk: 179.64 mixed” YY “ ” if you want a part to be portable, change the number by which it came out and “YY” means the percentage that you want to be portable.

Take your mobile and check that in “Settings – Storage” the capacity of the SD has been added.

Go back to the CMD and type “Sm list-volumes”. You will get something similar to private: 179.67 mounted fb705131-c6a0-4e3a-959b-605a65334c8c. Copy the numbers from fb705 … for the next step.

Change the numbers (fb705 … c8c) for yours and run  “pm move-primary-storage fb705131-c6a0-4e3a-959b-605a65334c8c” . From this on your mobile you will get a notification corresponding to the data migration.

On your mobile, open the QuickShortcutMaker application, and look for the process ” com.android.settings”  in the activities tab, locate ” com.android.settings.Applications.ManageApplications”  and create a shortcut to this service.

Restart your mobile and you’re done!

And well, this is it. It is a somewhat complicated process but if you are used to the Windows terminal and messing around a bit it will be a piece of cake and you should not have any problem. What do you think? Have you managed to increase the internal storage of your Xiaomi?
