Common Windows 10 problems and how to fix them? If you’ve upgraded to Windows 10, you’ll know it’s a big improvement over its predecessors and it has some fantastic features.

However, like any other operating system, it is not perfect and sometimes you will run into problems. Fortunately, very few problems with the PC are without a solution. I present common Windows 10 problems and how to fix them.

Common Windows 10 problems and how to fix them

1. Not enough space to install a Windows update

If you want a quick way to free dozens of gigabytes of space, we recommend CleanMyPC. It uninstalls apps and all their files, cleans the Windows registry database, and removes the pending temporary files.

It can automatically remove the files, after scanning your PC, or you can choose to review the scan results and decide for yourself what to delete.

Another way to deal with this is to automatically free up space on your hard drive or SSD. One way to do this is to use the integrated disk cleaning tool.

  • Click on the Start menu
  • Choose all programs
  • Select Accessories, then System Tools
  • Click Disk Cleanup
  • Under the heading Files to be deleted, choose the types of files you want to remove
  • If you are not sure which file types to delete, select one in turn and read its description
  • After selecting the file types to be deleted, click OK

You can also free up space by manually storing and removing large and old files and uninstalling applications, however, will take a long time.

2. The PC starts up slowly

There are several reasons why Windows 10 may start slowly. The first two things to check are that Windows is up to date and that it has not been infected with malware. To check for malware:

  • Press the Windows key and “I”
  • Choose Update and Security
  • Select Windows Defender
  • Click Open Windows Defender
  • Press Full Scan and Scan Now

Once the scan is complete, follow the instructions on the screen. To check for updates for Windows, go to Updates and Security and select the option to check for updates or install available updates.

Another option is to disable startup programs, which slow down the PC startup.

3. The files open with the wrong application

Many of us double-click on a file to open it, but if the file association in Windows is interrupted, as often happens, it will not open with the app we expect. You can solve it by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings.

Click on the System tab and look for the category called “default apps”. Here you can choose which app opens each type of file and specify an app for different file extensions.

4. Windows uses 4G data when you don’t want it

If you’re using a personal hotspot to connect to the Internet via 4G, the last thing you want is for background processes and downloads to consume your bandwidth.

  • Click on the Start menu and select Settings
  • Click Network and Internet
  • Select Wi-Fi, then Advanced Options
  • Switch “Set as measured connection” to ON position

5. You cannot play DVD movies

Windows 10 no longer has its own integrated DVD player. Probably because Microsoft assumes everyone is watching movies online. You can pay to download a DVD player from Microsoft, but a better idea is to download VLC instead. It’s free and will play your DVDs.

6. Common Windows problems 10. Too many notifications!

Action Center on Windows 10 is great for keeping all your notifications in one place. However, it can quickly become cluttered with messages that you don’t care much about apps you almost never use. Fortunately, you can turn everything off.

  • Go to the Start menu and select Settings
  • Click System, then select Notifications and Actions
  • Use the toggle switches to control how and when notifications appear or if they appear at all. In addition to checking system-wide notifications, you can set them based on the app.

If you no longer need the program with annoying notifications, you can uninstall it and forget about those annoying notifications.

7. Your privacy settings are not suitable for you

The default privacy settings in Windows 10 may be fine for many people, but for many others, they may allow excessive access to personal data. Here’s how to change them.

  • Go to Settings from the Start menu
  • Choose privacy
  • Go through each section on the left side in turn (General, location, camera, microphone, etc.)
  • Review the settings in each section and use the toggle switches to adjust them to your preferences

8. System Restore has disappeared

The system recovery has not disappeared from Windows 10, but it is disabled by default, for reasons known to Microsoft. To activate it, do the following:

  • Click the Start menu and type “System Restore” into the search box
  • Select Create a restore point
  • When the System Properties panel appears, click the System Protection tab
  • Make sure drive C: is selected and press Configure
  • Click the radio button next to Turn on system protection
  • Use the slider to specify the amount of hard drive to use for recovery points: 5-10% should do it

9. Too many pop-ups in Edge

Pop-up advertisements can be very frustrating. Fortunately, Edge has an integrated popup blocker, although it is turned off by default. To activate, start Edge, click the More button (three dots) and choose Settings, then View advanced settings. Set Block popup to “Active”.

10. Problems with the printer

The printers can create many problems, and can often be easily resolved.

  • Go to the Control Panel, then select Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer and choose to remove it.

Now go to your printer manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for your printer and follow the instructions to install them.

Windows 10 problems don’t have to cause you nightmares. If you follow the tips above, you can solve the most common ones quickly and easily.
