If you are one of the lucky owners of PS5, you have a console with extraordinary potential. In fact, thanks to this technological gem, it is possible to obtain a framerate higher than PS4. Load times too, thanks to the superior hardware, consisting of Super-fast SSDs, enjoy a substantial improvement.
In terms of graphic rendering, however, the remains perhaps the most important point to be able to fully enjoy the latest titles coming out. Activating HDR on PlayStation 5, however, is not so simple: in fact, beyond the basic procedure, every TV needs some precautions.
In this article we will address the topic, trying to bring back the instructions regarding the TV models most suitable for the latest console of Sony.
How to activate HDR for PlayStation 5 on consoles
Even before going to act on the TV, it is good to take care of the PlayStation 5 to activate this technology directly on the console. In this sense, it is necessary to proceed as follows:
- Turn on yours PS5;
- Go to Settings with your controller;
- Select Screen and video;
- Select HDR;
- Set HDR to Automatic.
At this point you can focus on the TV, following the instructions depending on its brand.
Enable HDR on PS5 for Samsung 4K TV
Samsung, on its newer TVs, enables HDR by default in game mode. This is the mode we recommend using, especially in the case of low latency.
If you’re not using the game mode, you can also manually enable HDR via the HDMI port. You can check if HDR is enabled by playing games, then use the remote to select the port HDMI in question. By doing so, a box will appear in the upper right corner confirming, among other settings, if HDR is enabled.
The whole procedure to follow is this:
- Select the HDMI port your PS5 is connected to;
- You open Settings;
- Go up Quick settings;
- Enable the game mode.
Alternatively:
- Go to Settings;
- Select Image;
- Select Advanced settings or Picture mode;
- Go to HDMI UHD Color;
- Activate HDMI UHD Color for the doors HDMI necessary.
Enable HDR on PS5 for LG 4K TVs
The televisions LG are widely appreciated for their ability to display signals 4K HDR quality. To enjoy HDR while gaming, you need to enable HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color on the relevant HDMI ports. To do this:
- Push the button Settings on the remote control;
- Scroll down to All Settings;
- Go to General;
- Select HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color;
- Enable the feature on the HDMI ports of your choice.
Enable HDR on PS5 for Vizio 4K TV
The Vizio brand is not among the best known in the sector, even if it is still in great growth. Depending on the TV model, the company offers products that can support HDR on some of its HDMI ports (but not all!). So we recommend that you double-check that your PS5 is connected to the correct port. In this sense:
- Open yours SmartCast app;
- Select Settings;
- Now select Input;
- Select HDMI Color Subsampling.
You can now enable HDR on the relevant HDMI ports of your choice.
Enable HDR on PS5 for Sony Bravia 4K TVs
Sony Bravia TVs support 4K HDR once the setting is enabled in Advanced format. This setting is disabled by default.
To activate HDR for PlayStation 5, in this case, you must:
- Press the button Home to open the menu;
- Scroll down to Settings;
- Select External inputs;
- Select the signal format HDMI (by default, it is set to standard format);
- Change the signal format to advanced format.
Enable HDR on PS5 for Panasonic 4K TVs
Some Panasonic 4K TVs support HDR. To be able to activate this technology on these products you must proceed as follows:
- Push the button Menu on the remote control;
- Access the card Configuration from the main menu;
- Select HDMI HDR Setting;
- Select the door HDMI relevant to which your PS5 is connected and activate it.
Enable HDR on PS5 for Philips 4K TVs
Modern Philips TVs support HDR but the feature must be enabled on the specific port. By default, Philips TVs are set to mode Legacy, then you will need to switch to the Normal mode. Continue as follows:
- Push the button Menu on the remote control;
- Choose Setup;
- Go to TV settings;
- Select Preferences;
- Select the mode HDMI;
- Choose the HDMI port your PS5 is connected to;
- Pass to Normal from Legacy.
Check compatibility
If you want to make sure that your TV is outputting an HDR signal with your PS5, there is an easy way to check this directly via the Sony console. In this sense you must:
- Turn on your PS5;
- Go to the Settings;
- To select Screen and video;
- To select Information about the video output;
- Verify that HDR is enabled.
Now you just have to enjoy your latest generation console! Many of the newer games support HDR and you will notice much richer colors with a properly set TV, although of course, the effect will vary depending on the title you are playing.
