As of the time of writing, Apple is in an early developer preview stage of its seventeenth iteration of the operating system. This is due to the fact that the company has lifted the lid on its seventeenth version of the OS. Even so, we can still get a sneak peek at some of its notable features that have been well and truly discussed across all the major tech blogs in the past couple of weeks. There is still a long way to go, but that is not the end of the story.
There are some minor hidden under-the-hood new features included in the latest version of iOS 17, which have been silently slipped under the radar as is the case with every OS update. Not anymore! The purpose of this post is to dig deep and examine all the hidden gems that the latest OS from Apple has to offer in an effort to uncover all the hidden gems in the OS. All the Hidden New Features in iOS 17
Crop Photo without Edit
If you don’t want to use the Edit menu, you can crop the photo instead. At the top right of the image, just zoom in and you’ll see the Crop option.
Recent Calls View with Voicemail indicator
In addition to the Recent Calls View, there is a new Inline Voicemail indicator available as well.
Margins Increase in Apple Books
In Apple Books [similar to the Kindle App], Apple has [finally] increased the margins so that it can use the full-screen space on an iPhone.
Apple TV Remote UI Redesign
There is a new layout for the Apple TV remote on the iPhone.
Mobile Data Renamed to Mobile Service
The term “mobile data” now refers to mobile services.
Wallpaper Auto Adjust
When you set a photo as wallpaper, it automatically enlarges the picture to fill the whole screen.
Customize Contacts Widget
You can add buttons for messaging and calling to the contacts widget. There’s more to it than that. Each button could be configured to send a message or make a call via the app of your choice.
New silencing option in Focus Mode
With the new silencing option in focus mode settings, you’ll be able to silence calls even when the screen is locked, as opposed to only ‘always’ previously.
Changes to the Weather App
As well as the native Weather app, there have been a lot of changes.
Preferred Pronouns
Contacts now support preferred pronouns (he/him/his, she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, etc.).
Redesigned Apple TV Lock Screen Control
A slider is no longer used to control the volume of the music.
Family Passwords
Passwords and passkeys will be able to be securely shared between users of Apple’s Safari browser if they use the new feature.
