Google Pixel 6 it could be the phone of the turning point by the company. Big G might indeed abandon Qualcomm in favor of what could be a proprietary chip, thus breaking away from the ever-present American chipmaker, which in all these years has accompanied the company’s top-of-the-range smartphones.

Google Pixel 6 goes towards using a proprietary chip

Thanks to a particular rumor coming out this week, we may have the first public evidence suggesting that Google may be making use of a custom chip for the first time on the new Google Pixel 6, instead of Qualcomm’s “usual” Snapdragon, which it has always turned to for the supply of CPUs.

Just a few weeks ago, some news leaks also mentioned the alleged codename of what should be the proprietary SoC that will be used, namely Whitechapel or GS101. That very chip, or at least a reference to it, appeared on Android AOSP in a source code modification.

Google Pixel 6The reference, discovered by the experts of the specialized newspaper XDA. The link, where the code change was published, now no longer accessible, mentions a named device “P21”, which could be the code for “Pixel 2021” or precisely Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 XL.

Still missing, however, are the technical details on the new proprietary SoC that should be used on the Google Pixel 6. In addition to the new top of the range, the company should even use it on new Chromebooks, in the wake of what Apple has done with its ARM M1 chip.

All that remains is to wait considered how interesting things get.
