Step 3:  Now open Apple Music and choose the song of your choice. Once done, open Maps and start navigating. Playback controls will appear under the navigation details. You will only be able to access the player settings if there is no song playing in the application. You will have to play the songs manually before or after you start browsing.

Note that Apple Music does not allow browsing the playlist content. Fortunately, there’s a neat Apple Music button at the top.

On the other hand, Spotify gives you the option to Continue Playing when you start browsing. At the same time, you can directly select songs from playlists.

By default, the system chooses the music from YouTube. However, you will need to be subscribed to YouTube Premium to be able to play the songs on Maps. If you are on the free version, YouTube Music will simply stop playing the song once you switch to Maps or any other application. The good thing is that you can select music from other services like Spotify and Apple Music.

Step 3: Once you have chosen your music application, open it and choose a song.

In the meantime, start navigating Google Maps, and the player controls will be available at the bottom immediately above the Assistant settings. Unlike iPhone, Android does not allow you to change the playlist within Maps. But when you tap on the song, it opens the song details page. Fortunately, there’s a Maps icon at the bottom to help you navigate back.

However, if you have to choose a new song or playlist, you will have to go back to Spotify by tapping the ‘Browse Spotify’ button at the bottom. Once done, go back to Maps, through the Navigation bar.

If you can’t take your hands off the wheel, you can always ask the Google Assistant to change the song.

Conclusion

While not as feature-rich as a dedicated music player, the Google Maps app’s music control features are still surprisingly complete. With just a few taps, we can play and pause songs, adjust the volume, and even see what song is playing. So if you need to take a break from browsing but don’t want to completely mute your music, the Google Maps app does what you need.
