The Prerequisites

Before proceeding with the suggested solutions, it’s crucial to satisfy the following requirements:

  • Open the Command Prompt in the ‘platform-tools’ folder.
  • Key in the command [fastboot devices].
  • Make sure that you receive an ID as a response, confirming a successful connection to your device.

FIX 1: Play the Waiting game!

Firstly, let’s explore a workaround that has proven successful for some users. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Keep your phone in Fastboot Mode—with the error message displayed—until the battery completely drains.
  2. Please ensure the device is not plugged into a charger during this time.
  3. After the battery is entirely drained, leave the phone powered off for approximately 8 additional hours.
  4. When this period is over, power on your device and connect it to the charger.

At this point, your device should reboot without any issues.

FIX 2: Using Fastboot Commands

  1. First off, make sure to checkmark all the above requirements.
  2. Then type in the below four commands in the CMD window:
    fastboot oem citadel reset
    fastboot oem citadel state
    fastboot oem citadel reset-locks
    fastboot reboot
  3. After the last command, your device should now boot to the OS.

FIX 3: Format Data via Fastboot

This issue—where your Pixel device is stuck in Fastboot Mode with “Device State” and “NOS Production” displaying “Error!”—may also occur if the Data partition is corrupted. In such instances, the only solution is to perform a factory reset from Fastboot Mode.

FIX 4: Flash Firmware

If your bootloader is locked but OEM Unlock is enabled, and you’re currently stuck in Fastboot Mode, execute the following command to unlock the bootloader. Be aware, this will erase all data from your device and might void the warranty. If your bootloader is already unlocked, you can skip this command.
