control smart home from the ColorOS

Smart home control is not always something that can be done right away. In fact, you don’t always have the option (or desire) to ask Alexa or Google Assistant to turn on or off the lights or to control other smart devices around the house. It can be just as inconvenient to pick up the phone and go to the appropriate app every time.

OPPO has decided to address this issue by introducing a feature on ColorOS 13 that makes smart home control incredibly intuitive and immediate: the function allows you to place smart home controls directly on the lock screen.

This means you don’t even have to unlock the phone to turn on or off the lights: simply turn on the display and bring up the lock screen.

However, in order to be used, this feature must first be activated and configured. What should I do? We’ll explain everything right away.

To begin, navigate to Settings and select the Home and Lock screen tab. Tap Lock screen shortcuts and then Device controls from this menu.

Now, exit and turn off the screen, which will lock the smartphone. To get to the ColorOS lock screen, turn on the display without unlocking your OPPO (just press the power button once).

You’ll notice a small house icon in the bottom left corner: tap it and drag your finger to the center of the screen to open the screen where you can configure the smart home controls.

You can choose the apps from which to take smart home controls by tapping on the two dots at the top right and then on Settings, and then choose the commands to show on the lockscreen by checking them.

We emphasize that, for the time being, ColorOS’s smart home controls do not support Alexa, but Google Assistant does. Among the platforms that are supported are Xiaomi Home and Realme Link.

  4. Select device controls
  5. Turn off the screen

NB the functionality is only available starting from ColorOS 13, however there are OPPOs with ColorOS 12 that have the same function in the shutdown menu .
