There’s a big sequence in BG3 called the Gauntlet of Shar that includes Trials of Shar. At the end of the game’s second act, you’ll find a mystical tower dedicated to Lady Shar. In the Shadowfell, this tower blocks the way, so only those who prove they’re smart can make it through.
Nightsong is only accessible after going through the Gauntlet of Shar. You have to find four Umbral Gems in Baldur’s Gate 3. You can get three out of four Shadow Gems by completing these Trials of Shar. In this guide, we’ll show you how to beat it.
Experiments with Shar locations in BG3
The Trials of Shar are spread across the Gauntlet of Shar in BG3, located north of Shadow-Cursed Land. You have to solve the puzzles in the Thorm Mausoleum to enter the Gauntlet of Shar. There is no other way to enter the Gauntlet of Shar. All three trials will be marked on your map when you enter the Gauntlet of Shar.
How to complete the Trials of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3
- Soft Step Trial
- Faith Leap Process
- Self-Same Trial
Soft Step Trial
The Soft Step Trial is Shar’s first test in BG3 and takes place north of the Gauntlet of Shar entrance (second floor). A gem umbrella is hidden behind a locked door as a reward for avoiding the guard and reaching the end of a path. However, this is easier said than done.
Please disband your group and take only one character for this process. Make sure your chosen character has better stealth stats and can pick locks. Equip them with thieves’ tools. Now, go to the end of the hall and pull the lever. Locate the locked room by passing through the newly opened wall. With a lockpick, open the lock and obtain an umbrella gem.
Faith Leap Process
Find Shar’s second trial in BG3 by checking your map. You must carefully follow a lit path to reach the end of this trial and obtain the Umbrella Gem.
You will significantly increase your chances of not falling into the abyss if you only use one character. You have three chances to pass this exam. It is always possible to clear the path simultaneously with a Potion of Glorious Vaulting, which gives super jumping abilities. Or, you can use any lighting spell (or set your television/monitor brightness to maximum) to see the golden path.
As the last trial of Shar, the Self-Same trial is the most challenging. It requires you to defeat exact copies of your players who are available at the time. You can artificially increase the difficulty by pitting your best players against each other.
To complete this trial, use Astarion alone, using his vampiric abilities to destroy his doppelganger as soon as possible. Once you defeat him, you will receive the third Umbral Jewel.
These are all the trials you can passof Shar. To complete the gauntlet, you must collect the Spear of Night by solving the puzzle in the Silent Library and take the fourth gem from Yurgir.
