Redmi, Xiaomi’s sub-brand, plans to launch a new Android smartphone on the market with a 50 MP camera on its main sensor. According to the information, we will have a new generation Omnivision sensor with larger dimensions.
Although for now, this hypothesis is just that, a possibility, the source in question has provided us with details and correct predictions about Xiaomi’s designs. In this way, we can have a new course of action compared to the current Redmi Note 10.
From 100 MP to “only” 50 MP on the next Redmi
In 2021 we already got to know the Redmi Note 10 Pro smartphone with a 108 MP camera on its main sensor, marking a new stage for this product line. However, we are seeing more and more high-end smartphones adopting new 50 MP sensors. The resolution will be lower, but we will have practical advantages in this implementation.
Incidentally, it is a visible trend already in OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, as well as Xiaomi. All of these manufacturers already use sensors with 50 MP of resolution, developed by Sony, among other companies like Samsung and Omnivision.
Furthermore, as manufacturers strive to deliver higher photographic quality, the new trend dictates that sensors must be calibrated to offer the same white balance, color representation, and other parameters.
Something that can be achieved with the use of identical sensors, where prior calibration is virtually unnecessary. That is precisely why we see the tops of the range using the same sensor in the main chamber and auxiliary chambers.
Take, for example, the OPPO Find X3 Pro, or the OnePlus 9 Pro. This is to exemplify the practical application of the same image sensor to the main camera – wide-angle, secondary camera – ultra-wide-angle, and/or to the tertiary telephoto camera (magnification or optical zoom), so that the cameras produce extremely identical results or even the same in quality.
The Redmi range will continue to reinforce the photographic aspect
Information leakage is now advanced by leaker Digital Chat Station through the Chinese social network Weibo, there is a new Redmi on the way. The terminal will be relatively economical, or with a competitive price and a new main camera of 50 MP.
The highlight, however, goes to the sensor size with 1 / 1.15 inches diagonal that will not be applied to the next version of the Redmi Note 10 Pro, an exclusive from China. Operating on the contrary interpretation, the chamber that will lead a new version for the global market.
Note also that the 50 MP sensor size indicated by the leaker does not fit the configurations of Samsung’s current GN1 and GN2. It does, however, fit the configuration of the new 50 MP sensor, Ominivision’s OV50A, announced in February.
This photographic sensor from OmniVision stands out for the total coverage of the focus points (phase-detection to 100%). Uses 1-micron pixels, and operates a pixel junction (pixel binning) that produces images with 12.5 MP resolution.
OmniVision sensor with larger dimensions and less MP’s
In summary, we are facing a photographic sensor larger than the one present in the Xiaomi Mi 11 with 108 MP. Likewise, it is also bigger (size) than the 48 MP present in the Redmi Note 10.
It is, above all, an inversion in the race for MPs and a redefinition of priorities. Remember that a larger sensor is always preferable to one with a higher pixel count.
Now, we look forward to more details about the next version of the Redmi Note 10 Pro with great anticipation. Could this smartphone, which is expected to be competitive, outperform even the Xiaomi Mi 11?
