Download GitHub Android app

GitHub, one of the most important platforms dedicated to hosting open-source projects, has officially landed on the Android Play Store. The news of the availability of the first version of the app began to circulate in the past few hours when users who had applied for access to the beta testing program received the invitation to download.

Although this is a version of ” early access ” (Early Access), GitHub for Android seems to work pretty well. Already starting from this first release it is possible to use the lower navigation bar to access a list of favorite repositories, view recent notifications or even search for the various public projects scattered all over the world.

Other possibilities include:

  • reading the README file;
  • reporting problems;
  • Search and navigation between requests;
  • integrated dark mode;
  • possibility to insert a comment.

Despite the many features, however, we can not help but report a rather important absence – especially considering the real nature of GitHub. Through the app – at least in this first release – it is impossible to browse the code of a repository. The hope is that this feature will be introduced soon in future updates.

Before leaving to download the app, we remind you that GitHub was purchased by Microsoft in June 2018 for 7.5 billion dollars. The acquisition was completed only a few months later after receiving the necessary authorizations.
