Google has released public beta builds of its upcoming Android version for the past few weeks. At this point, it’s time for the fourth public beta, which could be the last big beta Android 14 update and is quite stable. This year Google is following the same pattern for releasing its developer and beta builds as well. The roadmap starts with the first developer preview in February, to the stable public build release in August. Currently, it’s May, and the time given for a stable build will change depending on the situation.

There will be two developer previews and a total of four public beta releases. So it means that there will be an update every month before the stable release, but this will only interest Pixel phone users. If you have a Pixel phone, you can start testing Android 14 today.

Before you install the Android 14 update, here are a few things you need to keep in mind.

• Back up all your device’s data to a cloud storage service or onto your computer.
• When you install the developer preview onto your device (rooting required) all of your data will be erased.
• Because it is a first build, the app may contain bugs ranging from minor annoyances to crippling errors.
• Always keep a copy of the latest stable version of Android available for your device. That way, if something goes wrong with an update you’ve installed, rolling back to it will be easy.
• Beta is available for Google Pixel devices and all other models released in 2019, including the Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Tablet.
• If you are going to use OTA images, it’s a good idea to unlock your device’s bootloader first.
